The Niiyama Lures Aku/Skipjack was first released in late 2018. Very limited numbers of these will be produced due to the time it takes to make each one – These are are very uniquely handmade and hand-painted one by one and therefore no one Aku head is 100% like the other. During testing stage, Blue Marlin were eating these lures up like crazy and has a very good shot at becoming Jon’s first Grander Marlin lure. Extremely thick and heavy with 12″ skirt saddles and just over 11 ounces in weight (fits 14″ sized skirts as well), these large lures will handle even the roughest of sea conditions. Has the profile of a bullet shaped head, so it swims very straight and deep. Each head is belly weighted for perfect balancing. Recommend 500-700lb leader.
This is the extremely popular “oil” version of the Aku/Skipjack with an iridescent dark purple back, blue stripe, and oily iridescent belly with the trademark skipjack stripes. This version is darker than the last version – Jon continues to perfect and update his Aku patterns, and this batch of Aku’s continues to impress to say the least.
